Charging Port Repair in Manchester
If your cable only works at one angle, falls out, or the phone charges slowly or not at all, the port is usually at fault rather than the phone. Repairs start from £25 and are often done the same day.
Signs You Have This Problem
Charging faults are one of the most common repairs we collect for, and they are usually fixable.
Cable only works wedged at an angle
Worn contacts inside the port lose their spring, so the connector no longer seats properly.
Charges slowly or stops and starts
Debris or a partially failed port interrupts the connection, which shows as charging that keeps cutting in and out.
Nothing at all when plugged in
Could be the port, the cable or the charging circuit on the board. Our free diagnostic tells you which before any money is spent.
Loose connector that wobbles
Once a port has physical play it will only get worse, and forcing a cable can damage the board underneath.
What Causes It
Most charging problems are not a broken phone at all. Pocket lint compacts into the bottom of the port over months until the cable can no longer seat fully, and people then push harder, which bends the contacts. Cheap or frayed cables are the next most common cause, followed by tripping over a charging lead, which puts sideways force straight into the connector. On phones that have taken a knock or a splash, corrosion on the port pins is also common.
How We Fix It
Port cleaning and contact repairs start from £25, with a full port replacement from £39, and if a clean is all it needs we will tell you and charge you nothing for the diagnosis.
We start by inspecting the port under magnification and cleaning out compacted debris, because a surprising number of phones need nothing more than that. If the port itself is worn or corroded we replace the charging assembly, which on many models is a separate flex and on others is soldered to the board, and we will tell you which yours is when we quote. After fitting we test charging speed, data transfer and, where the port carries them, the microphone and antenna connections that often share the same flex.
