Signs You Have This Problem

Camera faults are very diagnosable from the symptom, which keeps the repair targeted and cheap.

Everything is blurry or will not focus

Often a broken optical image stabilisation module or a lens knocked out of alignment by a drop.

Black screen when the camera opens

Usually a disconnected or failed camera module rather than a software problem, though we check both.

A rattling sound when you shake the phone

That is the OIS magnets loose inside a damaged module. It is a definite hardware failure and the sound confirms it.

Cracked rear lens glass

The small glass covering the camera is a separate part from the back panel on most phones, and is often cheap to replace on its own.

What Causes It

Rear cameras sit under a small raised glass cover that takes the impact whenever the phone lands face-up, so cracked lens glass is extremely common and often the only damage. Inside the module, optical image stabilisation uses tiny suspended magnets that a hard drop can dislodge, which is the rattle people describe. Front cameras fail less from impact and more from liquid ingress, since they sit near the earpiece slot. Dust behind the lens after a poor previous repair also shows up as persistent blurry patches in the same place on every photo.

How We Fix It

Camera repairs start from £25 for the lens glass and rise for full module replacement.

We check first whether the problem is the outer lens glass or the module itself, because the difference in cost is significant and plenty of phones only need the glass. Where the module has failed we replace it and confirm focus, stabilisation, flash, portrait and video modes across all lenses before returning the phone. On models where the camera is paired to the board we will explain up front what that means for your handset. Front and rear camera prices are listed per model on our iPhone and Samsung pages.

Phone Camera Repair FAQs

Just the small glass over my camera is cracked. Is that a cheap fix?
Usually yes, and it is worth doing promptly. Once that glass is broken, dust gets onto the lens and you end up needing the whole module instead.
My camera works but every photo has a blurry patch in the same spot.
That is debris or moisture behind the lens. Cleaning or module replacement clears it completely.
Is a rattling camera worth repairing?
Yes. The rattle means the stabilisation module is damaged, and left alone it will keep degrading photo quality. It is a contained repair.
Will the camera still be genuine quality?
We fit quality modules matched to your model specification, and every repair carries our 12-month warranty.
